Where are the English-speaking progressives living in Ecuador and what are their interests?

Where are the progressive immigrants and English speakers in Ecuador? It's not an easy question to answer. It is possible to extrapolate to some extent that many of the progressives will be in cities such as Cuenca and Quito where most of the English-speaking foreigners and immigrants live.  There are also smaller towns and urban areas in Ecuador that attract English-speaking foreigners, like Cotacachi and Vilcabamba in the sierras, or Salinas and Manta on the coast.

Once you find progressive expat/immigrants in Ecuador, the next question might be what's on their minds? Like everywhere else in the world progressives are concerned with human rights, the environment, healthcare, and economic justice as we would be at home in North America, Europe, Asia, and so on.

Ecuador can seem to be taking steps backward while also paradoxically moving forward with all of these issues. One would hope for an overall net gain, however, most of these social improvements have been hard won and could disappear with the stroke of a legislative pen if not for the current constitutional language protecting them at least in principle.

If you are interested in making contact with more English-speaking progressives in the region, Ecuador Progressives has a lively social media presence on Facebook, which we invite you to join. We have some brief introductory posts on topics of interest to progressives in an Ecuadorian context linked here in our blog to get your thoughts flowing. Talk to us and let us know what you are thinking. Welcome to Ecuador's English-speaking progressive community!
